“This scholarship wasn’t just about my education; it was about learning to make a difference in people’s lives too.”
Miriam, who once doubted her chances of getting the scholarship, felt the weight of financial constraints and questioned her ability to pursue a degree in oil and gas engineering at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT). In her second year of university, she applied for the Mo Scholars Program. Despite her initial uncertainty, she secured the scholarship and excelled in her studies.
“I felt empowered and driven to make the most out of this incredible opportunity.”
The best part of her journey and being one of the scholarship recipients was that not only did the scholarship ease her financial burden but also instilled in her a sense of responsibility. Grateful for the opportunity, she realized the importance of making a difference in people’s lives and the ripple effect of giving back, as well as the profound impact that support can have on an individual’s life. This newfound perspective inspired Miriam to actively engage in community projects and share her knowledge with those around her by taking on teaching roles in between her studies.
“It provided me with a platform to learn, grow, and develop skills that are helping me in my career now. It wasn’t just about the education; it was about the doors it opened, the experiences it offered, and the confidence it gave me to chase my dreams. Overall, the scholarship’s contribution has been immense, shaping my path and paving the way for where I am today.”
Fast forward to today, Miriam has received another scholarship, this time from the EU-UNDP, and has gone on to pursue a master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology. Miriam’s story is proof that opportunities can come when least expected, and with determination, one can turn doubts into achievements.
