The Power of Partnerships: Advancing MDF’s Mission
INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS
King’s Trust International
By signing this pledge, I hope to inspire my peers, fellow Africans, and citizens of the world to take a close look at the funds they truly need to maintain their families versus their ability to give. We all have a moral obligation as the more affluent in society to give back as best we know how.
- Mohammed “Mo” Dewji
MDF Founder
The Giving Pledge
The Giving Pledge is a simple concept: an open invitation for the wealthiest among us to publicly commit to giving the majority of their wealth to philanthropy either during their lifetimes or after. Started by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, The Giving Pledge is comprised of more than 240 of the world’s wealthiest individuals, from 29 different countries, all of whom convene annually to strategize solutions to pressing challenges facing the globe today.
In 2016, MDF Founder Mohammed Dewji signed the Giving Pledge, committing to donate at least half of his fortune to philanthropy. Mr. Dewji is one of four African signatories of the pledge, demonstrating his leadership in philanthropy on the African Continent.
Georgetown Pivot Program
The Mo Dewji Foundation proudly supported the Georgetown Pivot Program, an initiative dedicated to the reentry and reintegration of formerly incarcerated Black Americans. Over the course of three years, Mohammed Dewji through the Mo Dewji Foundation contributed $350,000, helping empower 80 justice-involved individuals with career pathways, entrepreneurship training, and second-chance opportunities. As of June 2024, over 90% of graduates secured employment within three to four months -many in industries previously beyond reach, and more than 15 have launched entrepreneurial ventures.
This partnership reflects a powerful shift in global philanthropy, where a Southern foundation invests in social justice and equity efforts in the North, demonstrating a shared commitment to dignity, opportunity, and the universal right to a second chance.
“By engaging in this work, we are sending a strong signal that no one should be denied the opportunity to contribute to our society and fulfill their human potential.”
– Dr. Alyssa Lovegrove, Executive Director of the program
