On the 27th of May 2024, the Mo Dewji Foundation (MDF) in collaboration with the Local Government Authority (LGA) of the Korogwe Town Council and Magunga City Hospital, conducted a 3-day comprehensive eye camp in Korogwe, Tanga. This initiative aimed to address the basic and advanced eye care needs for the most under-served.

A Transformative Experience
Over the 3-day camp, a total of 4,797 people were screened for various eye conditions. The dedicated medical team conducted 358 surgeries, distributed 3,026 eye drops, and provided 2,306 pairs of reading glasses.

Voices from the Community
Mohammed Ndago, a beneficiary of the program, shared his joy: “I felt torn apart and left out as a Simba SC fan when I was blind, not knowing who scored the goal when people were cheering, but now I can join in the celebrations and watch the match together.”
Hadija Shemdoe,120, a resident of Memba Village, expressed her gratitude: “I experienced total darkness for the past weeks before the surgeries, but now I can see the world again, clear skies and clouds.”
Jessica Frank, 65, from Mchungwani Village, also spoke about her transformation: “My eye was infected so much that it reached a point I couldn’t see my own children, but now I can see and am excited to go home again to farm and cook as I can see. Mo Dewji has helped us and we have become humans again, capable of doing our day to day activities.”

Gratitude from the Medical Officer at Magunga Hospital
Dr. Stephen Minja, the TMO at Magunga City Hospital, expressed his gratitude: “The collaboration with the Mo Dewji Foundation has been instrumental in executing this eye camp. Their support and resources have allowed us to deliver high-quality eye care to a large number of people.”
